The 2015 Biathle World Championships were hosted by Georgia in a developing coastal city called Batumi.
The Championships comprised over 600 competitors from 30 different countries with particularly good representation from 5 of the Eastern European Countries, Egypt, UAE and South Africa, all of whom were probably well positoned to race in the hot conditions.
Sophie, as member of the GB Youth D Team, raced well in the heats and secured her place as one of the 16 athletes competing in the finals. After a period of rest following the heats and determined to do well Sophie gave it her all in the finals. Following the first run and the swim elements of the race she entered into the second run in 4th position. However, she was unable to keep up the pace and gradually across the distance dropped down to, a still very respectable, 9th posiiton when she passed the finishing post.
The South Africans dominated the Youth D podium and secured the 1st place team position but the GB team members did excepionally well securing the 2nd team place, with the Ukraine team joining them on the podium in 3rd position. Sophie, as one of the 3 quickest 6 GB team members, returned home with a wonderful team silver medal and lasting memories of a fabulous sporting and life event.
