Francesca Durbin (Tri-Force Juniors Coach) won a BRONZE medal at the World Aquathlon Championships in Chicago in the under 20s age category and was the first Brit over the finish line!
Her event involved a 750 metre swim in Lake Michigan followed by a 5km run around the city in high temperatures and humidity. If that wasn’t enough, the very next day she competed in the Sprint Triathlon World Championships (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run). Despite the lack of recovery time, she put in a solid performance finishing in 34th place out of the 67 starters in the 16 to 19 age group. She set a personal best on the bike phase, which she finds the toughest, and beat her own swim time of the previous day. She did the fastest run of the GB team despite a somewhat slower run than the previous day as her legs were feeling tired.
This is huge achievement given that she only seriously took up Triathlon last September 2014 and fitted A-level revision and exams in between all the GB age group team qualification events this summer plus of course finding time for coaching the Juniors at Tri-Force. She is now off to start at Loughborough University where she will be studying Sports & Exercise Science.
So all-in-all a fantastic year so far and now time for a new life at Uni!
