The event took place on a slightly dull and damp morning. As ever the organization was slick and the children registered easily. There was not such a robust turnout from Tri-Force Juniors this time..(maybe everyone went to watch the London marathon instead!). We had Mathew Enever, Benjamin Taggart (Year 3), Antonia Jubb, Reece Dickson (Year 5), Sam Newman (Year 6), Lauren Enever, Hannah Newman (Year 7), James Mabbs (Year 8) and Alannah Mabbs (Year 9).
Years 11, 10, 9 and 8 were ready and on poolside for 9.15am and the race started promptly. We had no representation from years 10 and 11.
James and Alannah put in great performances with Alannah (Year 9) finishing 2nd in a time of 19.28 (with a 2nd place swim time of 06.02 and 2nd place run time of 13.26).
James (Year 8) finished 4th out of 8 boys in a time of 19.02 (with a 5th place swim time of 06.34 and 4th place run time of 12.28). James unfortunately didn’t make an improvement on his previous October time of 18.50.
The Year 7 group then set off at just after 9.40am. There were more competitors in this category with 9 girls and 6 boys taking part. Lauren put in a decent swim time of 03.49 to be in 5th place and had a quick transition (using a race belt this time!) and was out and running, looking strong throughout. She completed her run in 08.46 (only 5 seconds off the fastest runner) and finished 2nd overall in a time of 12.35 (an improvement on her October race of 13.15).
Hannah was immediately behind Lauren in 03.58 and 6th place. Hannah then had a 7th place run of 09.32 to finish a very respectable 7th place in an overall time of 13.31.
Sam represented Year 6 and gave a great performance finishing 2nd out of 9 in 12.54 (swim time 04.43 and run time 08.19 – both 2nd quickest).
Years 5, 4 and 3 were next up and took off just after 10.15.
Antonia and Reece (Year 5) had the toughest heat with over 19 girls and 17 boys competing!
Antonia did an amazing performance sealing her victory in 1st place in a time of 07.53 (swim time 02.31 – fastest of all the boys and girls and run time 05.22 quickest girl). This was a huge improvement on her time of 08.29 in October.
Reece was in 8th place after completing the swim in 03.06 and then a 15th place run in 05.41 pushed him down a couple of places to finish 10th overall.
Last but not least, we had the Year 3 battle of the boys between Mathew and Benjamin. First into the pool for the snake swim was Benjamin with Mathew hot on his tail (with swim times of 02.05 and 01.46 to be in 3rd and 1st places respectively). Benjamin was first out on the run with Mathew determined to catch him! It was neck and neck for a while with Benjamin trying to extend his lead but Mathew finally managed to break past Benjamin and gave a valiant sprint for the end. Mathew was quickest on the run in 02.46 and Benjamin 5th quickest in 03.10. Both boys did extremely well with Benjamin finishing in 3rd place in 05.15 and Mathew in 1st place in 04.33, which was a 37 second improvement from his October 2014 race.
All the children were eagerly waiting their times and positions, but after a good 45mins wait, we were informed there was a technical hitch and some of the times had to be re-entered manually so the results were sent out the following day.
Hopefully there were some happy children on the Monday after receiving their results!!
