At last , the well prepared and efficiently organised Basildon East Region Triathlon on Saturday 6th June was rewarded by some warm sunshine that lasted throughout the day, assisted by some hearty encouragement from a large and enthusiastic crowd that had all the participants doing their best in the good conditions.
On this occasion, Tri Force had 9 competitors in total, all of which helped to continue the improving standards of Tri Force within the region and continue to be a credit to the club and the coaches for the performances they put in.
With 4 representatives in the Tri Star 3 category, Tori Weston (31.40), despite having initial difficulties with getting on her bike with pedal cleats, came a very creditable 7th in the girls section, closely followed by an ever improving Naomi Holt (32.03) in 8th place, and Alannah Mabbs( 34.05) also impressed with a finish of 12th out of 38 girls in total.
The overall winner of the girls section was Helena Dyce from Walden Juniors with a finish time of 27.49 minutes.
James Mabbs, also had a fine performance finishing 11th out of the 27 boys competing in a time of 32.01. The eventual winner being Josh Borrett from Cambridge Tri Club completing the race in 26.05.
In the Tri Star 2 category the club had just two female competitors, Christie Durbin and Jessica Thorn, both of which have continued to provide consistent and similar high standards throughout their performances of late, often with just seconds separating the two, and this competition was no different.
Both competitors on this occasion finishing within the top 10, with Jessica finishing 4th (23.48) less than a minute ahead of Christie finishing 7th (24.39).
The eventual winner was Katie Tasker, representing PACTRAC continuing her fine efforts this year completing the course in 23.06.
The club had just one competitor for each race in the Tri Star 1 category although they both performed outstandingly in this section with Antonia Jubb finishing 5th, despite an issue with her bike chain near the end f the bike section, with a time of (18.17) and Reece Dickson coming 9th out of the boys in a time of 18.56. The eventual winners were Jake Borrett for the boys (15.45) and Abbi McCallum ( 17.31).
Tri-Force Juniorshad just the one competitor in the Tri Start section , and this was represented by Mackenzie Holt, who was no doubt eager to carry on in her older sisters footsteps, and coming a superb 10th on her first ever Triathlon event deserves a great deal of praise, especially dealing with the adversity of her chain coming off just as she started the bike section. We welcome her into the Tri-Force Juniors community.
