Letchworth duck and dash September 2017

A lovely sunny day greeted the competitors for the Letchworth Duck n Dash Aquathlon hosted by Freedom Tri at the Letchworth Open Air 50m Lido. Tri-Force Juniors had 8 representatives along with one parent taking part.

Each of the age groups started the swim in a snake formation with the slowest swimmers going in first, which meant that the fastest swimmers had to negotiate overtaking.

Our first representative was Hugo Crowley in the Tristart Boys race. There were 7 competitors and Hugo produced a fantastic effort to finish 3rd overall, only narrowly missing out on 1st place by a mere 10 seconds.

In the Tristar 1 Girls race, there was a large field of 30 competitors including Rebecca Bint and Mackenzie Holt. Both girls swam well, overtaking many in the pool. They also had a fast run with Mackenzie finishing 6th and Rebecca 11th. Rebecca was disappointed to miss out on a top 10 finish by only 7 seconds.

In the Tristar 2 Boys race, Jonathan Bint had another large group of 24 competitors, including many Hoddesdon rivals which are up against him in most races. Jonathan overtook a few of these boys on the swim and had a good battle on the run. He finished 11th overall, helped by the second fastest transition time.

We had two Tristar 2 girls competing in a field of 18; Florence Crowley and Hannah McCabe. Florence had a superb race with the 2nd fastest swim and 3rd fastest run time. She finished 2nd overall thanks to a quicker transition time over her nearest rival.

Hannah McCabe also had a fantastic performance with the 4th fastest swim and 6th fastest run. She finished 4th overall again with a slick transition time.

In the Tristar 3 girls race, there were 6 competitors. Eva McCabe showed her true class finishing 1st, winning by over a minute and 50 secs to her nearest rival.  Eva was really pleased that she managed to retain her title from 2016.

While Naomi has taken part in several adult races this season, this was her last race in the Youth category. Unfortunately a foot injury meant Naomi had to take this race gently in order to not jeopardise other scheduled races. All of Tri-Force representatives and parents stayed to cheer on the Girl’s club captain, much to her embarrassment. Naomi finished 3rd overall.

In the adult race, Andy Holt was taking part in the Veteran’s race. There were 27 starters and Andy finished a marvelous 7th.

A big congratulations to everyone who took part.
