What a difference a year makes – last year it was dry, sunny and warm and this year it was very windy with lots of rain, but that didn’t dampen the spirits for a great morning aquathlon which involved a swim in a 50m outdoor lido followed by a park run.
Joy and Jordan Walters had been unable to get into the Basildon aquathlon and so were the only 2 members of Tri-Force Juniors at the event.
The race does not have standard age categories, which meant Jordan had to compete in the U17 age group and as the upper end of Tristar 2 was competing against Tristar 3 and Youth competitors which meant her result was even more remarkable. Jordan was in 7th place after the swim but then with the quickest transition of all the competitors by 12 seconds she came onto the run in 2nd place. Not surprisingly against much older kids, she was always going to be up against it on the run. A 4th place run meant she ended up 4th overall beating 8 much older competitors. Very well done Jordan and a great start to the season.
Joy competed in the u12 girls event and was in 1st place after her swim. Her transition was really quick – a minute and a quarter ahead of her nearest competitor which gave her a healthy lead going on to her least favourite run discipline. Despite the child behind her closing rapidly a 2nd place in the run meant she had won the event with 2 seconds to spare and was really pleased with her Wiggle voucher.
