It was an early start for the Epping triathlon- probably just as well as the day turned out to be scorching hot. While Triforce had no representatives in the youth race, we did have 12 competitors across 4 different age groups.
After setting up transition and a thorough race briefing
including a warning about exiting the pool and the tight turns into transition it was time for racing to commence.
The day started off with the tristart girls race which proved to be full of drama. The first swimmer out of the pool had quite lead after a quick transition but had to pull out after her chain came off. The only Tristart girl representative for Tri-Force was Rebecca Bint. While she was a little bit down on the swim, she had a super quick transition. Clearly transition practise had paid off. However this caused carnage as all the girls were trying to cross the mount line at the same time!. Unfortunately Rebecca found the bike course hard going and she lost time to the others. A steady run helped Rebecca to finish 5th.
There was quite a small field of Tristar 1 girls with only 13 starting on the day. Robyn Hartley was the only girl representing Tri-Force. Robyn had a strong swim, coming out of the pool in 4th place, only 5 seconds off 3rd. She put in a good bike leg to keep in contention. There were some very strong runners from the other clubs on the day, giving Robyn 8th place overall.
In the Tristar 1 boys race, we had 3 competitors; Jonathan Bint, Lucas Hartley and Benjamin Taggart. This was the largest field by far on the day. Lucas had a tremendous swim, exiting in 4th place just like his sister. Benjamin was close behind in 5th place. While Jonathan had a solid swim, he was a little down on the others but made up some time with a quick transition. The bike leg was hard going for all of the Triforce boys but they all put in a magnificent effort. Finally onto the run, where Jonathan managed to close some of the gap on the others but really needed a longer distance. All 3 boys did themselves proud, finishing 9th(Lucas), 13th(Benjamin) and 21st(Jonathan).
We had 2 representatives in the Tristar 2 girls race; Antonia Jubb and Caitlin Hartley. Antonia had the fastest swim and run out of all 22 competitors. This combined with an 8th placed bike leg gave her a 3rd place finish overall. Many congratulations on another brilliant competition.
Caitlin also had a fantastic swim, being only 6 seconds behind Antonia.
She gave a solid performance in the bike and run to earn 9th place.
The only Tristar 2 boy representative was Sam Newman. He had a solid swim to come out in 9th position but moved up the field with a gutsy bike leg. Sam’s strength is clearly on the run as he managed a superb 2nd fastest run time. Overall Sam climbed to a well deserved 6th place.
There was a good competitive race between Jess Thorn and Hannah Newman in a field of 10 Tristart 3 girls. Only a mere 13 seconds separated the girls coming out of the pool. However Jess pulled out a bit of a lead on the bike. Hannah was chasing on the run but couldn’t close the gap, finishing 6th overall. Jess had the 3rd fastest run time and only just missed out on 3rd position by 12 seconds.
Tom Jarman and Aidan Mclean also had their own personal duel going on. Aidan was the first out of the pool in 11th place, 23 seconds ahead of Tom in 12th position. However Tom had a slightly quicker bike ride, narrowing the gap down to 20 seconds. The battle played out on the run with Tom overtaking Aidan and gaining a lead of 35 seconds. Overall Tom secured 11th placed with Aidan closely behind in 12th.
Well done to all those who took part.
